This is one of their top road frames with Nervex Pro lugs, fork crown and Simplex forged rear dropouts — the gear hanger has been cut off.
It has French bottom bracket and headset threads. It has its original paint albeit in quite poor condition.

The Bikes Over the years I have aquired through my business several old handbuilt bikes mainly Harry Quinn’s but also the odd Soens, Ribble, and Walvale. In recent times I have noticed that there have been fewer about. So when just two months ago someone rang up asking if I was interested in their grand-fathers old bikes, I decided to have a look with an idea to restore them. I ended up buying them and a box of old bits. The bikes turned out to be very collectable the first is a Jim Soens dating from about built from Reynolds double butted comp tubing with Nervex Proffesional lugs.
It has turned out to be in very good condition, clean with no sign of corrosion. Going by the gear levers seat pin and front mech its original equptmemnt would have been Campag Record. It is my intention to use gear on the rebuild so keeping the bike as near original as possible. The second bike is a Bates “Cantiflex with Diadrant Forks” it is a Vergrandis model so far as I can tell dating from about it is also hand built using Reynolds tubing.
This bike would have been equipped with Sturemy Archer 3 speed gears.

Nervex Professional Lugs Author: This was obviously very time-consuming and relatively expensive. Before the Professional many companies, including Nervex, produced pressed steel lugs of various designs which were used some as produced and some modified. The Professional though was a classic design destined to succeed from the day it was introduced. The lug just looked right, beautifully cut with pleasing lines and not needing to be over-elaborate as some lugs could be.
Also, these pressed-steel lugs were relatively light and well finished, apparently needing less filing and cleaning-up than some of the cast steel designs available at the time. Frame builders took to it at once and more importantly, so did the public. Part of its success can be attributed to Nervex lugs being chosen by many of the top frame builders and racers on the continent; Louison Bobet reportedly won the French Road National Championship on a Stella frame built with a Nervex Pro lugset.
Naturally, the Brits wanted the same equipment on their machines. The Nervex Professional lugset is now considered a classic design yet it was remarkably prolific. It might be imagined that the mass-production of these lugs might diminish their significance as a classic item. This has clearly not been the case.
